Boomerang Bags kicked off in 2013 when Co-founders, Tania Potts and Jordyn de Boer met up with the dream of reducing plastic bags within their community of Burleigh Heads. Thanks to hundreds of amazing supporters and thousands of dedicated volunteers, Boomerang Bags has now become a global movement of grassroots, community action!
Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of Boomerang Bags – community made, using recycled materials. Boomerang Bags provide a safe, fun, sustainable alternative to plastic bags.
The Nest Community Inc are establishing our own social Sunday group who love to sew bags and chat. We encourage members of the community from all ages to attend. It allows a wonderful opportunity to feel connected to the community, learn and develop new skills, all whilst being sustainable.
The Nest Community Boomerang Bag group is looking for new volunteers to assist with this project. We have secured a regular order from a local business and would gratefully appreciate volunteers to attend our workshops to assist with the regular production of Boomerang Bags. The proceeds from the sale of these bags contribute towards supporting The Nest Community Inc.
We have kits available to distribute to those who may wish to sew at home rather than at the sewing bee events. If volunteers were able to sew three bags per month this would go a long way towards meeting out order quota. We understand not everyone is able to commit to this and we are grateful for any help you are willing to provide.
We welcome any sewers who are interested in becoming part of this exciting movement and helping rid the world of single use plastic bags. The group is very friendly and happy to provide guidance and help for those newish to sewing.
